SUP RACE CUP 2010 / FIRST EUROPEEN CHAMPION SHIP
la Cigale Surf Club
Within the framework of the Festival of the Spring, 2010 of Sainte Maxime, the CIGALE Surfing Club of the Country of the MAURES and the SUNSHORT company organize, the weekend of May 29th and 30th, 2010, an event completely dedicated to the STAND UP PADDLE.
These two days have for objective to group together in the Mediterranean Sea, in an authentic frame, passionate persons' maximum of SUP of varied horizons and various big marks of SUP ( stand are free for expose SUP) , around a friendly demonstration in an atmosphere common to the Festival of the Spring having for theme Brazil.
For it 3 events are planned:
• 2 races (a relay in the morning and a race in the afternoon) in Sainte Maxime on Saturday, May 29th
• 1 chase long distance Race of 14 km in Saint Tropez on Sunday, May 30th
This event will be the First EUROPEEN SUP RACE CHAMPIONSHIP and 5000€ Price Money
In parallel in the competition various animations will be proposed in Sainte Maxime: initiation into the Stand Up Paddle and discovery of dugouts.
Various marks will be present: Starboard, Naish, Nahskwell, Ron House, Gery Lopez, Woo, Hobie, Kialoa, Paddle surfing the Hawaiian Islands, Quickblade, Imagines…ect…

Spots(Spotlights):
for Sainte Maxime it is situated Beach of the city center (place chosen to welcome 2 events: a Relay and a Race.
For Saint Tropez the course is twice made, allocates of the beach of Cannebiers (sailing school of Saint Tropez) go up to the red lighthouse then, return in passing in front of " Madrague " and arrived in front of the sailing school of Saint Tropez.

9h / 10h: welcome of the participants and confirmation of the registrations
10 hours(am) / 10:30 am: briefing
11 hours: launch of the relay 2 pm launch sup race 16 hours at the end of epreuves
on Sunday, May 30th, 2010 in Saint Tropez
9h / 10h: welcome of the participants and confirmation of the registrations
10 hours(am) / 10:30 am: briefing 11 hours: launch of the long test(event) outstrips
Prize-giving at 4:30 pm in Sainte Maxime
Animations:
Village of tents under which will be installed the biggest marks representing the Stand Up Paddle in the world, some novelties associated with the evolution of the Stand Up Paddle will be presented, of the initiation is planned on Sundays afternoon on Sainte Maxime.
The Brazilian atmosphere of the Festival of the spring will cheer up the day, the musicians and dancers will pass in the village SUP.
A French painter of the world of the surfing Celine Chat, should be present to create on two days, a wall picture which will be the reflection of our weekend, She will be exposed on the podium on Sundays evenings (will serve as bottom for the prize-giving).
Surf Rider Foundation should also be present, to make sensitive the public in the protection AND saving of our seas, oceans, lakes and rivers.
A tent will be dedicated to the shape, a local shapper will show and will explain the manufacturing of a surfing and\or a longboard

Initiation, discovery of the stand up and special surfers paddle events.
Events:
In Sainte Maxime on Saturdays mornings,
a race relay : 4x1km by team of four (one or two women minimum / team)
In Sainte Maxime on Saturdays after noon,
a race of 7 km: along the center beach of the city center
(5 X1.4km)
In Saint Tropez on Sundays,
a race of 14 km all along the coast of St Tropez from the sailing school of cannebiers to Saint Tropez (2 x7km)

Hi SUPHers,
Dit was echt een erg leuk weekend en een van de historische momenten in de nog jonge Europese SUP geschiedenis.
Echt een battle of the paddle style evenement met veel deelnemers uit allerlei Europese landen en snelle/goede peddelaars. Was super om erbij te zijn en te mee te racen.
Er zullen ongetwifeld nog meer foto's en videos vrijkomen en ik zal kijken wat ik vanaf Frankrijk aan pica's op de site kan zetten.
En we hebben een Europese winner bij de dames!! Anne-Marie heeft gisteren de 14 km gewonnen in moeilijke condities met veel wind. SUPER en een prestatie die er niet om liegt!
Estafette:
Het weekend startte met een Estafette koers waarin teams van 4 (3 man en 1 vrouw) om de beurt een rondje van 1.3 km peddelen. Snelste wint! Super leuk concept. Het team van Hobie Star heeft gewonnen. (de star stond voor Starboard aangezien Anne-Marie meedeed in dit team op haar eigen board.) zie de video hier. http://www.micromax.tv/film.php?idvideo=339
Race 7 km
Daarna volgde nog de 7 km race waarvan al enkele foto's op de site te zien zijn. Super leuk en leerzaam om mee te maken. Wat een geweld als de start begint. En dan het water dat gewoon 'kookt'/ kolkt van alle boards en peddels die door het water knallen. 5 rondjes en dan in ronde 4 al gelapt worden door de winnaars, pfff. wat gingen die gasten hard. Toch tevreden over mijn prestaties, zeker gezien de (beperkte) voorbereiding. Lukte me nog een aantal rondjes met Anne-marie (30ste en 2 dame) gelijk op te gaan, maar in de latere rondes liep ze toch wat uit. Mooi om haar aan het werk te zien. Resultaat van veel trainen en goede mental fitness. Uiteindelijk kwam ik op de 35 positie uit.
Verslag gaat verder ook in een estafette vorm. Zal dan ook wat schrijven over mijn verblijf in het weekend met Chuck Patterson, Byron Kurt en Eric Terrien in hetzelfde huis. Echt gelachen en voor een sup addict als ik natuurlijk een ongelooflijke bron van info.

Straks de auto in met de PSH 12' gun ripper op naar St. Tropez. Ben erg benieuwd naar het weekend.
Ziet er naar uit dat Chuck Patterson en Byron Kurt m'n roomies worden dus ben erg benieuwd. Eens kijken of we wat interviews kunnen lospeuteren.
